The Fairy type is one of the 18 Pokémon elemental types. It is the newest type in Pokémon games, being added in the core series games Pokémon X and Y. The addition of this type is to balance the dominance of Dragon-type and Fighting-type Pokémon, as well as giving Poison-type and Steel-type moves more usage in offense. This is shown in the type matchup of Fairy-type — having immunity to Dragon-type moves, being super effective against Dragon-type, Fighting-type and Dark-type Pokémon, as well as weak to Poison-type and Steel-type attacks.
