Freezing Fissure is a dark, abandoned mine that can be accessed by veering right off the course downhill on the mountain in Route 16. Despite being a cave, no Rock-type or Ground-type Pokémon are to be found here. Instead, all Wild Pokémon in this area belong to the Ice type. The parts and pipes inside the cave resemble parts from an old steampunk factory, many of which are filled with ice. In the middle of this cave is a mine rail which extends throughout the area.
Following the mine rail and passing the mid-point of this cave, a red pipe to the right can be seen, which leads to a small room containing TM79 Frost Breath. Continuing further deep in, the mine rail extends deeper into a platform where it suddenly ends on top of an abyss. Is there any secret to this bottomless dark pit?
Note: Rarity levels are estimations according to this scale and might be subject to changes due to different encounter assessment results, unless supported by official encounter rates, which are listed in red under the rarity level if known. If there are any Pokémon with low catch rates, the possibility to flee or requirement of gaining happiness to evolve, recommended Poké Balls for that Pokémon will be shown with the corresponding bag sprite under the Pokémon's name.

- The background music is based on that for Ice Path, Johto in Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver.
- Freezing Fissure is similar physically to the abandoned mine that Kyurem roams in the Pokémon Movie Kyurem VS The Swords of Justice.
